Spend a day at the picturesque mountain retreat of Kuranda Village, surrounded by the world's oldest living tropical rainforest.
Your day starts with collection from your Cairns hotel, where your friendly driver will meet you, and issue your Kuranda Boarding Pass – keep this safe, as this gets you on and off the train and cable cars, and has all your information for the day. Get transferred to the Freshwater Station, ready to board the train.
Once aboard the Kuranda Scenic Rail, enjoy this historical train journey to Kuranda, taking in the breathtaking views across the cane fields of Cairns, to the tropical rainforest of Kuranda. This spectacular experience travels over dozens of bridges, 93 curves and through 15 tunnels hand-made by pioneers over 120 years ago.
Upon arrival in Kuranda, it’s time to explore this fascinating village. The Heritage Markets operate 7 days a week and are full of colourful and interesting arts and crafts. You might also like to visit Birdworld, the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary or Kuranda Koala Gardens (at your own expense). Your Kuranda Boarding Pass offers discounted entry into selected Kuranda attractions. There are also plenty of cafes and restaurants to grab a bite to eat from.
At the scheduled time, make your way directly to the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway boarding line – there is no need to queue as your tickets are already on your Boarding Pass. Once aboard, be amazed as you glide over 7.5 kilometres over and through World Heritage protected Rainforest on the cable cars with large windows for panoramic views.
The Skyrail journey also includes time at both Red Peak and Barron Falls stations. Each has a rainforest boardwalk loop, for the chance to stretch your legs and immerse yourself in nature. You can even take a ranger-guided tour at Red Peak. Then, at Barron Falls, see the powerful waterfalls and gorge from the lookout.
After arriving at the Smithfield Skyrail landing, make yourself known to the tour host and they will direct you to your coach for the transfer back to your accommodation.
