What to Expect

This unique food and wine experience departing from your Port Douglas accommodation is a chance to taste some of the best food and wine that the Atherton Tablelands has to offer. The tour will take you through various contrasting landscapes from lush rainforest, crops, dairyland to stunning ochre savannah plains.


The rich volcanic soil allows farmers to grow diverse crops, including bananas, coffee, sugar cane, avocados, mangoes, macadamia nuts, and citrus, which you will learn about as you taste your way around the regions' Food Bowl.'


Take in the beautiful views on this fascinating and tasty journey through a gem of Far North Queensland, with seven stops along the way.


Stop 1 – Rainforestation Nature Park


The first stop is Rainforestation Nature Park amidst the Kuranda rainforest, a local family-owned business providing an exclusive breakfast opportunity. Set on the balcony of a Tree House restaurant, enjoy a delicious breakfast of tropical fruits (seasonal), Mungali yoghurt, wattleseed damper, a selection of tropical jams, and local tea and coffee.


Stop 2 – De Bruey's Boutique Tropical Winery


You'll then head up the Kuranda Range to De Bruey's Boutique Tropical Wines, located near Mareeba on a 15-hectare mango orchard cradled between the peaks of the Great Dividing Range. All the wines are made on-site using a blend of tradition and innovation, producing high-quality wines from a rich diversity of tropical fruits. Here, you'll sip deliciously different tropical fruit wines,liqueurs, cream liqueurs and Ports at the cellar door.



Stop 3 – Jaques or Skybury Coffee Plantation


The next stop is the Jaques or Skybury Coffee Plantation for a caffeine hit. Both grow and roast Australian Arabica Coffee beans in the rich soils of the Tablelands. Relax and enjoy the remarkable locations while learning about the finer details of coffee from tree to cup and enjoying a delicious cup made just as you like it and sample some more Award-winning coffee liqueurs and spirits.


Stop 4 – Mount Uncle Distillery


Just 10 minutes down the road you'll arrive at Mount Uncle Distillery, North Queensland's first and only distillery. Enjoy a delicious fresh lunch of local produce, then head to the distillery to taste some of their award-winning liqueurs and spirits. Gluten-free or vegetarian lunch and lactose-free cheese are available on request.


Finally, stretch your legs with a wander around this stunning property nestled in coffee and banana plantations, with beautiful gardens and some friendly animals.


Stop 5 – Gallo Dairyland


With full bellies, you'll now head towards the historic village of Atherton. Driving through this thriving hub, a patchwork of excellent farmland and rolling green hills appear before you. This journey will take you to a fully operational dairy farm, Gallo Dairyland, spread across 1000 acres of rich red volcanic soil with delicious handcrafted chocolates and a gourmet cheese factory.


You can buy the delicious cheeses that we have just tasted and sample irresistible Swiss style filled chocolates that are a work of art whilst gazing out over the picturesque landscape. Meet some friendly animals before heading back to Mareeba through various diverse crops.


Stop 6 – The Humpy


Continue through a patchwork of farmland, diverse crops and rolling green hills for a tasting and shopping treat. Stop at 'The Humpy', the best place to go to for freshly harvested Atherton Tablelands produce straight from the growers. There's everything from vegetables to tropical fruits and hundreds of different nuts, dried fruits, and locally produced jams and sauces.


Taste some seasonal fruits and many different flavours of hot local peanuts and macadamia nuts. Enjoy time to browse this unique and quirky grocery store so you can purchase goodies for the rest of your stay.


Stop 7 – Platypus Hut


Finally, if that is not enough, you'll head across the savannah 'Outback', past giant termite mounds & classic red dirt to a unique 160-acre Private Property – the last stop of the day. Here you can soak up the stunning rainforest and pristine environment, a sanctuary for bird & animal species.


Watch out for passing kangaroos and head down to 'The Platypus Hut', where you can sit in a tranquil setting as the sun goes down. Watch for dive-bombing Kingfishers and the elusive Platypus (or dip your toes into the most beautiful mountain stream) while tasting some Queensland wines & beer, Macadamia nut butter and local bread.
