Your hangi meal consists of succulent Lamb, Chicken, Potatoe, Kumara (Sweet Potatoe), Stuffing is complemented with rich brown gravy and thick mint sauce.

A range of salads is on offer including Cauliflower with Sesame Seeds, Sweet Corn &amp; Rice dish and Freshly Tossed Garden Salad.

Side dishes includes a scalloped potatoes and kumara (sweet potatoe) bake with a cheese topping, Seafood Chowder,&nbsp;freshly baked Garlic Bread, and Rewana Bread (traditional maori bread).

Itinerary: 
Your evening begins with a personalised meet and greet from one of the village&#39;s beautiful Maori Maidens. Dressed in the traditional attire, you&#39;ll have the chance to take a photograph together before entering the village.&nbsp;Once inside the Mitai Maori Village, you&#39;ll learn the traditional guidelines of&nbsp;such a sacred place. 
 
As you enter the world of Mitai, you&#39;ll be enthralled by the natural bush setting that surrounds you. Hear stories of the past&nbsp;and history of this significant area. It was&nbsp;once was occupied and contained many&nbsp;villages. 
 
As you explore the village, there&#39;s plenty to see. Watch for&nbsp;warriors in traditional dress paddling an ancient warrior canoe (waka) down the Wai-o-whiro stream, and don&rsquo;t miss the chance to see glow worms in their natural habitat. Marvel at the crystal clear water at the sacred &ldquo;Fairy Spring&rdquo;, that&#39;s full of eels and trout. 
 
Later, be captivated by songs, dances and games in a&nbsp;powerful&nbsp;cultural concert. You&#39;ll also get to witness&nbsp;the spine-tingling &ldquo;Haka&rdquo; Maori war dance.&nbsp; Through the songs, dances&nbsp;and legends told, you&#39;ll learn a great deal about this village&#39;s fascinating past. Hear stories about the way the Maori interacted with the European settlers many generations ago and learn about traditional music, carving and the use of plants. There&#39;s also fascinating&nbsp;displays of weaponry and combat&nbsp;shown during the performance.&nbsp; 
 
You&#39;ll also get to view the uplifting of the hangi from the earth cooked oven (Hangi Pit). Learn about the preparation and contents of the traditional hangi. You get to try this cultural feast too!&nbsp;Dine on a hot selection of succulent New Zealand meats and poultry, delicious vegetables and fresh salads, topped off with tempting dessert buffet style. Full bar facilities are also available. 
 
There&#39;s plenty of time for traditional activities too, and you can learn the art of Ta Moko (tattoo) and Poi dance (Ball on the end of a string). You&#39;ll also learn about Maori customs,&nbsp;instruments, carving, and the medicinal uses of the flora and fauna around&nbsp;you.&nbsp;

Mitai Maori Village - OLD

We were given a short history and explanation of their culture with some humour. We were first shown a replica waka with a brief history and also the ‘ hangi’ food being cooked in the ground Afterwards we were led to the “river” and given a show with Māori warriors in a waka paddling up and downstream which was fun. After this was a concert of music with two unsuspecting members of the audience being drawn in. We were shown authentic musical instruments and song and dance and including the Haka. The meal followed and was well received. A good evening not too expensive or touristy.

Wonderful combination of humour , traditional Maori dance spectacle and visit to recreated Maori village alongside excellent Maori slow cooked meal.

Mitai village experience

John was a wonderful host. The food was tasty and plentiful. His family is full of wonderful performers with lovely singing voices. We enjoyed the whole experience with our 10 yr old daughter. Definitely recommend!

Great cultural experience

Really enjoyable time here, with a guide really funny and able to speak up to 17 languages ! 
The ceremony and show were entertaining and really interesting (nothing spiritual - only cultural).
Food was good, only lamb, chicken, potato and kumara for the hangi, standard side dishes and desserts.

Anyway, don't miss that out !
