Where we visit:

Day 1 - Port town of Nanay

Morning departure from Iquitos City via auto to arrive in the port town of Nanay (Bellavista), where the Rio Nanay meets the Rio Amazonas. After departing by boat we will travel downriver 70km (about 2 hours). During the riverboat trip, you may see caimans, turtles, herons, pink river dolphins, snakes, and many other species of flora/fauna along the riverbank.

Upon arriving at Monkey Island &ndash; a small island about 15 minutes from the Maniti Lodge, you will discover a large number of monkeys in their natural habitat. During your visit on the island you will have the unique opportunity to observe and interact with a wide variety of monkeys that include: sloth, goeldi&rsquo;s monkey, tamarin monkey, capuchin monkey, yellow-handed titi monkey, masked titi monkey, cebidae monkey, wooly monkey, squirrel monkey, spider monkey, South American Coati monkey, and many more! Along with the various species of monkeys, you will have to opportunity to hold very large anacondas, boas and interact with the very unique and rare Amazonian mata-mata turtle. At Monkey Island we will also see alligators, turtles, toucans, macaws, parrots, etc.

Enjoy a dolphin watching session at the camp where we will have the unique opportunity to see the pink freshwater dolphin. If we are lucky we will also have the chance to swim with them on the main Amazon River. In the evening we will go on a nocturnal nature hike to see what types of species can be seen (lizards, snakes, spiders, monkeys). Overnight will be spent at the Maniti Eco-Lodge.

Day 2 -&nbsp;Palo Alto 
 
Wake up refreshed for your morning jungle hike (30-45 minutes) to &ldquo;Palo Alto&rdquo;. The unique attraction &ldquo;Palo Alto Mirador&rdquo; is a lookout point that has 3 different observation deck levels. Here, guests have a birds-eye view of the lowland Peruvian Amazon from 5, 10, and 15m&nbsp;above the ground. Guests will have the opportunity to spend the night with excellent opportunities to observe various species of wildlife in their natural habitat.

&nbsp;

Daytime exploration of the area includes hiking, canoe ride in lagoon, fishing. In the evening ,we will go on a nighttime nature walk to see what types of species can be seen (reptiles, spiders, monkeys). Spend the night under the stars at the top observation deck of Palo Alto (setting up a tent or in hammocks).

Day 3 -&nbsp;Maniti Camp Lodge

A morning bird watching session from &ldquo;Palo Alto&rdquo; will leave you feeling relaxed and ready for the day ahead. Today we will visit some lagoons that are located close to the Maniti Camp Lodge, near the R&iacute;o Napo. They hold a great variety of palms, large trees, and a beautiful landscape. Here, partake in a number of activities&nbsp;such as trekking, canoe rides, fishing, and identification of plants, bird watching or maybe just relaxing with a nice cool swim in one of the lagoons.

&nbsp;

In the late afternoon, we will return to Maniti Lodge to have lunch. After dark we will go on an excursion by boat in search of the white and black caiman as well as various night birds and another reptile; this also gives us the enjoyable opportunity to hear the symphony of sounds that comes from the forest at night. Overnight is spent at Maniti Eco-Lodge.

Day 4 -&nbsp;Pacaya Samiria Reserve

Fuel up with breakfast before we depart fromManiti Lodge to destination Pacaya Samiria Reserve (we will need to go through Iquitos to arrive at the Pacaya Samiria Reserve). Upon arrival at Iquitos (Port of Nanay), we will visit the floating market and neighborhood of Belen. Enjoy a private canoe ride through the floating market and neighborhood of Belen, located on the edge of the Itaya River. On the outskirts of the market, we will visit the largest aquatic plant in the world (Victoria Regia).

&nbsp;

Enjoy lunch in Iquitos before we depart on a private journey to Nauta. In a private motorboat, we will travel upriver, passing the spectacular meeting of two major rivers (Ucayali &amp; Mara&ntilde;on) that come together to form the Amazon River, until we arrive at the small pueblo of La Libertad. During the riverboat trip, you will have a great possibility of seeing caimans, turtles, herons, pink river dolphins, snakes, and many other species of flora/fauna along the riverbank. Enjoy an afternoon dolphin watching session at the camp, we will have the unique opportunity to see the pink freshwater dolphin. If we are lucky we will also have the chance to swim with them.

Return to camp for a delicious dinner. After sunset, we will go on an excursion via canoe to spot and catch caiman. We will have the opportunity to hold, touch, and take photos with the caiman. Spend the night overnight in tents in the Pacaya Samiria Reserve.

Day 5 -&nbsp;Pacaya Samiria National Reserve

Departing in the morning from La Libertad in private motorboat, we will travel upriver into the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. There will be passenger identification at the reserve&rsquo;s entrance check-point. Lunch will be served upon arrival&nbsp;in the Arequipa community where the first camp will be set up. Watch diverse species of birds along the way, including egrets, hawks, horned screamers, jacanas, parrots, and parakeets. It is also possible to see the Amazon River dolphins.

&nbsp;

After sunset we will go on an excursion via canoe to spot and catch caiman, we will have the opportunity to hold, touch, and take photos with the caiman, before returning to camp for dinner. Spend the night&nbsp;in tents at Pacaya Samiria Reserve.

Day 6 -&nbsp;Shansho Cocha Lake

An early morning breakfast will be served prior to departing the campsite. We will cruise the Rio Mara&ntilde;on for about 3 hours until we reach our destination (Shansho Cocha Lake area). During the riverboat trip, you will have a great possibility of seeing primates, reptiles, turtles, birds, pink river dolphins, and many other species of flora/fauna along the riverbank. We will then set up the campsite and lunch. Something that will immediately catch your attention is the black waters of the rivers, which gives tourists the sensation of traveling between mirrors. This is why the Pacaya Samiria is many times referred to as the &ldquo;jungle of the mirrors&rdquo;.

Spend the afternoon fishing for piranha, peacock bass and other species of fish in the reserve. We will then return to camp to have dinner. After dinner, we will go on a nighttime nature walk to see what types of species can be seen (lizards, snakes, spiders, monkeys). Overnight will be spent in tents in Pacaya Samiria Reserve.

Day 7 -&nbsp;Rio Yanayacu

We will pack our things and travel upriver into the National Reserve via Rio Mara&ntilde;on and entering the Rio Yanayacu (close to pueblo Viente de Enero). We will cruise the river until we reach our destination. During the riverboat trip, you will have a great possibility of seeing primates, reptiles, turtles, birds, pink river dolphins, and many other species of flora/fauna along the riverbank. Upon arrival, we will then set up the campsite and enjoy lunch.

Stretch your legs on a jungle hike in the Pacaya Samiria Reserve where we will have the unique opportunity to see a vast number of primates, reptiles, turtles, birds, pink river dolphins, butterflies, and much other wildlife interact in their natural habitat. We will see and learn about various types of Amazonian plants such as the Ayahuasca Vine (Banisteriopsis caapi), Cats Claw Vine (Uncaria tomentosa), Victoria Amazonica, Ceiba Tree, Sensitive Plant (Mimosa pudica), and more.

Day 8 -&nbsp;Viente de Enero

An early morning breakfast will be served followed by a jungle an expedition to the Pacaya Samiria Reserve around the area of Viente de Enero, where we will have the unique opportunity to see a vast number of primates, reptiles, turtles, birds, pink river dolphins, butterflies, and much other wildlife interact in their natural habitat. We will see and learn about various types of Amazonian plants such as the Ayahuasca Vine (Banisteriopsis caapi), Cats Claw Vine (Uncaria tomentosa), Victoria Amazonica, Ceiba Tree, Sensitive Plant (Mimosa pudica), and more.

Today we again will visit Japon Creek and Yanta Lake in the reserve. These places hold a great variety of palms, large trees, and beautiful wildlife. Day 9 -&nbsp;Sacarita de Yarina

Early morning breakfast will be served followed by a jungle&nbsp;expedition to the Pacaya Samiria Reserve around the area of Sacarita de Yarina. Here, we will have the unique opportunity to see a vast number of primates, reptiles, turtles, birds, pink river dolphins, butterflies, and much other wildlife interact in their natural habitat.

&nbsp;

During the trip, you could spot the graceful pink dolphins and the &ldquo;taricayas&rdquo;, the local name for the yellow-spotted river turtles (Podocnemis unifilis). You could also have the chance of seeing the elusive giant river otters (Ptenerura brasiliensis), who are both skillful swimmers and fishers. Lunch is then served on the edge of the river overlooking the beautiful scenery. Walk around the camp to discover this area&rsquo;s exquisite flora and fauna. See the wonderful color changes of the rainforest at sunset. Enjoy dinner and a chat with your guide regarding the next day&rsquo;s activities.

Day 10 -&nbsp;Iquitos City

An early morning breakfast will be served followed by a morning departure on our boat. We will start to make our way back in the direction downriver towards Iquitos city. Watch birds as they leave their nests to find their food on the river; among them ,cotingas, macaws, parrots and harpy (Harpia harpyja).

&nbsp;

Enjoy an excursion to Yanaquillo Creek to spot squirrel monkeys (Saimiri boliviensis), saddleback tamarins (Saguinus fuscicollis) and sloths (Bradypus variegatus). We will stop and see the giant Lupuna (Ceiba pentandra), Capirona, and Capinur&iacute; (Helioc&oacute;stilis scabra) trees and also eye-catching birds as the Toucan (Pteroglossus), the Red Macaw (Ara Macao), the Blue-and-Yellow Macaw (Ara ararauna), the Great Egret (Egretta alba) and the Amazon Kingfisher (Chloroceryle amazona).

Around midday, we will stop to have our lunch. Day 11 -&nbsp;Laguna Guaya

An early morning breakfast will be served before we depart&nbsp;on our boat to visit Laguna Guaya - where we will be able to see graceful pink dolphins (Inia geoffrenssis), &ldquo;taricayas&rdquo;, the local name given to the yellow-spotted river turtles (Podocnemis unifilis) and usually giant river otters (Ptenerura brasiliensis). Enjoy a canoe excursion at Yanayacu Pucate to spot squirrel monkeys (Saimiri boliviensis), saddleback tamarins (Saguinus fuscicollis), sloths (Bradypus variegatus) and&nbsp;other types of monkeys.

&nbsp;

We will have an early morning breakfast and prepare for our last excursion into the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. After our morning excursion, we will return back to camp to have lunch and pack our belongings and make our way back to the city of Iquitos. During the riverboat trip back to Iquitos,&nbsp;you may see caimans, turtles, herons, pink river dolphins, snakes, and many other species of flora/fauna along the riverbank. Visit IIAP (Instituto de Investigaci&oacute;n de la Amazon&iacute;a Peruana), where you will be able to visit with manatees and freshwater dolphins that have been rescued from the Amazon and are being rehabilitated. Private transportation will be provided&nbsp;to bring you to the airport or your hotel of choice.
