Eating is a big part of traveling. On this tour, you&#39;ll experience the vast array of wonderful food. Generally meals are not included in the trip price when there is a choice of eating options, to give you the maximum flexibility in deciding where, what and with whom to eat. It also gives you more budgeting flexibility, though generally food is cheap. Our groups tend to eat together to enable you to taste a larger variety of dishes and enjoy each other&#39;s company. There is no obligation to do this though. Your CEO will be able to suggest favourite restaurants during your trip.

Single travellers joining group trips are paired in twin or multi-share accommodation with someone of the same sex for the duration of the trip.&nbsp;

Please note that if you have booked the &quot;My Own Room&quot; option for this tour, you will receive your own single room for all night stops

This tour includes a flight from Oaxaca to Villahermosa en route to Palenque. Please note that flight routing may be via Mexico City.

All domestic flights within the tour are included in the cost. It is important that The Supplier has your passport information at the time of booking in order to process these tickets. Internal flight tickets are issued locally and will be given to you prior to the flight departure.

BAGGAGE ALLOWANCE FOR DOMESTIC FLIGHTS WITHIN MEXICO: 
Maximum one piece of luggage per person weighing a maximum of 25 kilograms (55 pounds), with maximum linear dimensions of 62 inches (158 centimetres).

We recommend the use of a duffel bag or backpack (whichever you find easiest to carry). You will be responsible for carrying and handling your own luggage. You must be able to carry your luggage to our accommodations and should be prepared to load it on and off of transportation, as porters are usually not on hand. A good size daypack is also essential.

It is customary in Latin America to tip service providers such as waiters, at approximately 10%, depending on the service. Tipping is an expected - though not compulsory - component of your tour program and an expression of satisfaction with the persons who have assisted you on your tour. Although it may not be customary to you, it is of considerable significance to the people who will take care of you during your travels. There are several times during the trip where there is opportunity to tip the local guides or drivers we use. Recommendations for tipping drivers and local guides would range from $5-10 USD per day depending on the quality and length of the service; ask your CEO for specific recommendations based on the circumstances and culture.

Tipping of your Chief Experience Officer is very much appreciated. The amount is entirely a personal preference; however as a guideline $5- 7 USD per person, per day is our recommendation in the region. However, if you felt your CEO did an especially outstanding job, any additional amount will always be welcome.

Day 1: Mexico City 
 
On Day 1 of your tour, take the time to meet your CEO and fellow travellers and learn more about what&#39;s to come on your 14 Day&nbsp;tour. Opt to join the group for a local meal or arrive a&nbsp;day or two early to fully explore this bustling metropolis.

&nbsp;

Note: Don&#39;t forget to see the notice in the lobby (or ask reception) for the official time and place to meet up with the group. Please check your voucher upon purchse for specific hotel and departure info.

Day 2: Mexico City&nbsp; 
Enjoy free time to explore Mexico City. Opt to check out the sprawling z&oacute;calo (main square), visit the Frida Kahlo museum in vibrant Coyoac&aacute;n, or view impressive Mayan and Aztec artifacts at the National Anthropology Museum.

&nbsp;

Day 3: Mexico City/Puebla 
Rise early and explore the ancient city of Teotihuacan on a guided tour. Located northeast of Mexico City, the&nbsp;Teotihuac&aacute;n Pyramids&nbsp;ruin site dates back to 100BC and has the impressive Avenue of the Dead, Pyramid of the Sun and Pyramid of the Moon. Bring water, wear a hat and solid walking shoes, as you climb the pyramids to learn all about this pre-Columbian Mesoamerican city.

&nbsp;

Journeying on to Puebla, enjoy a route that differs&nbsp;for each tour, allowing your CEO&nbsp;to share their personal favourite highlights. You can expect to see the z&oacute;calo, artisans&#39; market and visit the historic buildings within centre of this World Heritage city.

Transport: You&#39;ll travel by private vehicle today for approx 5&nbsp;hours for a distance of 195km.

 
Day 4: Puebla 
Enjoy a free day to explore the city. Opt to visit a ceramics workshop, check out the pyramid of nearby Cholula, sample delicious local specialties, or watch a lucha libre wrestling match at night.

 
Day 5: Puebla/Oaxaca 
Journey south to beautiful Oaxaca&nbsp;and get a feel for the city on an orientation walk, stopping to visit one of its sprawling markets.

&nbsp;

Your CEO will show off their favourite spots, but you&nbsp;can expect to see the Santo Domingo Cultural Centre, walk through the zocalo and the famous 20th of November market. Opt to sample some delicious Oaxacan foods along the way such as mole, tlayudas or chapulines.

Transport: You&#39;ll travel by first-class bus&nbsp;today for approx 5-6 hours for a distance of 340km.

 
Day 6: Oaxaca 
Take advantage of free time&nbsp;on Day 6 in Oaxaca. Opt to learn how to make mole in a cooking class, shop at nearby artisan villages, Visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Mitla, or sample some mezcal at a local distillery - look out for the worm!

 
Day 7: Oaxaca/Palenque 
It&#39;s time for a change of scenery! Travel in style and fly to Villahermosa, then transfer to Palenque by land.

Transport: You&#39;ll travel by&nbsp;both private vehicle and plane today for approx 2-3&nbsp;hours for a distance of 145km. 
&nbsp;

Day 8: Palenque 
Enjoy a guided tour of the Mayan ruins of Palenque, set in the jungle of Chiapas. Here, you&#39;ll see all the highlights including the Temple of the Cross Group, Temple of Inscriptions and the Grand Palace. Howler monkeys sound in the distance as the fog rolls in and out of this mystical site, one of the most important centres for trade and culture during the end of the Classic Maya period.

Day 9: Palenque/M&eacute;rida 
On Day 9 of your tour you&#39;ll travel to the Yucat&aacute;n Peninsula, stopping off in the seaside historic city of Campeche. Upon arrival in M&eacute;rida, enjoy a brief orientation walk with your CEO. He/she will give you some tips on finding things like supermarkets, main squares, and ATMs. For more specific or in-depth information, an official guided tour is recommended.

 
Transport: You&#39;ll travel by private vehicle today for approx 9&nbsp;hours for a distance of 555km.

 
Day 10: M&eacute;rida 
Enjoy a free day to explore M&eacute;rida and surroundings. There&#39;s the option to visit the Mayan ruins of Uxmal or explore the main square and historic buildings of M&eacute;rida.

 
Day 11: M&eacute;rida/Valladolid 
Explore the ancient Mayan City of Chich&eacute;n Itz&aacute; with a guided tour.&nbsp; Join up with a local expert and learn about the history of Chich&eacute;n Itz&aacute; and the beliefs and rituals that defined this ancient Mayan civilization. This dramatic site includes a 30m (98 ft) high temple, known as the Pyramid of Kukulcan, famous for its balustrade of 91 stairs up each of the four sides, a ball court with a grandstand&nbsp;and towering walls. Visit the highlights of the site including the famous Castillo, the ball court, the cenote, and the Nunnery.

Then continue on to the quaint city of Valladolid. Feel like cooling off? There&#39;s the option to head for a&nbsp;swim in a nearby cenote, a natural water-filled sinkhole.

Day 12: Valladolid/Playa del Carmen 
Travel to Playa del Carmen to lounge on Mayan Riviera beaches. Enjoy dinner at a El Hongo Mexican Community Restaurant &amp; Youth Art Program.

El Hongo (which means &#39;The Mushroom&#39;) is a volunteer-run restaurant started as a means to create income to support a youth art program in the &#39;real&#39; Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Across the highway from the commercial beach strip is where most locals live &ndash; cross onto the unpaved roads and enjoy a delicious home-style meal at the restaurant, while learning more about this much-needed program for the community.

Day 13: Playa del Carmen 
With one day left of your trip,to explore the Mayan ruins of Tul&uacute;m or just play in the waves and enjoy the beach!

 
Day 14: Playa del Carmen

The Canc&uacute;n airport is approximately 1 hour from Playa del Carmen. There are frequent public buses and shuttles from Playa del Carmen to the airport throughout the day.
