This tour starts and finishes in Brisbane, at the Hotel Grand Chancellor, 23 Leichhardt Street, Brisbane.

The trip starts in Brisbane with a Welcome Meeting at 9:30 am on Day 1and finishes on arrival back in Brisbane on Day 5 at our finish point hotel around 5pm. Accommodation is not included on this day.

  • This trip involves plenty of walking over varied terrain and is only suited to travellers with a good level of mobility and fitness. Good footwear, clothing for all types of Queensland weather, plus perhaps walking poles are recommended. More details on each walk can be found in the itinerary.
  • The walks included on this trip are Grade 3 (suitable for most ages & fitness levels, some walking experience recommended, tracks may have short, steep sections, a rough surface and many steps) and Grade 4 (walking experience recommended, tracks may be long, rough & steep)
  • The weather in this part of the world can be unpredictable, even in the dry season, so be sure to pack for all conditions!
  • Walks indicated in the day-by-day itinerary are our best pick, but we may need to change them sometimes depending on the track and weather conditions.

All countries require a valid passport (with a minimum 6 months validity).

Contact your local embassy or consulate for the most up-to-date visa requirements, or see your travel agent.

It is your own responsibility to have the correct travel documentation. Visa requirements for your trip will vary depending on where you are from and where you are going.

Yes, travel insurance is compulsory on this trip.

LUGGAGE LIMIT

Due to limited vehicle space and strictly enforced road laws regarding transport of baggage, your main piece of luggage must be soft-sided, compact and weigh no more than 15kg/33lb. The Operator is unable to carry large suitcases or bags, particularly hard/externally framed suitcases as they are difficult to store and can damage equipment and other travellers' belongings.

PACKING

Be prepared for a variety of weather, with the possibility of cold, windy and wet conditions and in the warmer months hot days as well. It is not necessary to ‘dress’ for evening meals; casual, comfortable clothing is sufficient.

Miscellaneous

LED head torch with spare batteries

Walking shoes/boots note

Waterproof walking boots with full ankle support are recommended for walking trips. Make sure your footwear is well worn-in and comfortable. The Operator also recommends hiking socks with at least one spare pair, as you will find these minimise the chance of getting blisters. The key to preventing blisters and avoiding unnecessary pain is to eliminate friction.

WATER BOTTLE

Please bring your own water bottle to refill along the way. Although it can be difficult to avoid bottled water when travelling, please use the water dispensers which are provided on some of the vehicles and at some of the accommodation. Your leader will advise whether tap water is safe to drink in your destination, and if it is you can simply refill with tap water. When unable to avoid bottled water, it is better to buy the largest available and distribute it into your smaller bottle for the day. If you are walking or trekking as part of your trip you will need to carry at least 2L of water with you.

Every traveller is different and therefore spending money requirements will vary. Some travellers may drink more than others while other travellers like to purchase more souvenirs than most. Please consider your own spending habits when it comes to allowing for drinks, shopping and tipping. However, please note that 3 breakfasts, 2 lunches and 1 dinner is included for this tour.

You can have a plate of food for a street vendor for $10-$20AUD, however there are always more expensive options. From a mid-range, sit-down restaurant, expect to pay $10-$80AUD - not including alcohol.

Accommodation will be in motels and a lodge.

The style of accommodation indicated in the day-to-day itinerary is a guideline only and may change. On some occasions, alternative arrangements may need to be made due to the lack of availability of rooms in our preferred accommodation. In these cases, we will use a similar standard of accommodation.

Throughout the trip, the tour operator requests their properties prepare rooms in time for our arrival, especially if arriving prior to normal check-in time. However, this isn't always possible which means we won't be able to check-in immediately on arrival at some hotels. Instead, we can store our luggage and explore our new destination or on some trips, have use of shared day rooms until all rooms are available.

Your accommodation at Mt Barney (days 3 & 4) will be in an eco-conscious homestead converted from a historic1900s 'Queenslander' farmhouse. This is not a hotel in the traditional sense, so you will be sharing basic facilities with other guests at the property. While you may have to forgo modern facilities during your time here you will be in the middle of nature with beautiful views of the mountain ranges. If you have booked a single supplement please remember that the nights at the homestead are excluded. Instead you will be sharing a room with another member of your group.

We understand you're not always able to plan ahead. When you buy an open dated voucher, it has an expiry date stating when you need to redeem it by. Once the voucher expires you will not be able to redeem or extend the expiry date and no refunds are offered.

When you buy an open dated voucher, it is your responsibility to contact us here at Backpacker Deals to book a travel date and time. As some tours are popular and are likely to sell out, we recommend booking as soon as possible.

Be ready to manage your own luggage, including loading it on and off our vehicle and taking it from the car park to and from our accommodation in each location. We recommend no more than 20kg for your main luggage in a soft-sided bag and no more than 7kg for your day pack.

The beauty of our style of travel is that it caters to travellers who are travelling solo and who want to meet and share experiences with like-minded people.

Rooming is organised on a twin-share basis. We pair up solo travellers with another traveller of the same gender.

There is also the option to upgrade to a single room when booking.

Travellers with special dietary requirements or food allergies are required to advise us at the time of booking.

You may be asked to pay for any additional food if you have not advised us of any special dietary requirements. Due to the often remote nature of our trips, food is basic but plentiful and delicious.

The below dietary needs can be easily catered for.

Vegetarian
Gluten-Free
Dairy Free (soy available)
Pork Free
Please bring your own staples (nuts, bars, snacks) if you require a diet differing from the above.

* Religious and more specific dietary requirements are generally unable to be catered for on these trips.
