WHAT TO EXPECT

This day tour is one of the best ways to see the Great Barrier Reef! The tour focuses is on bringing the reef to life for all ages and all experiences, so the whole family has a  great time. The day begins by departing from Bundaberg on the 35-metre Reef Empress catamaran. On the journey over, you'll meet the crew and enjoy a selection of fresh baked goods and fruit for morning tea along with a tea or coffee. Watch the in-house entertainment on plasma screens throughout the vessel, scan the horizon for jumping manta rays, or spot dolphins riding the bow.

Once you arrive at Lady Musgrave Island & Lagoon on the Great Barrier Reef, you'll have plenty of activities to choose from and 4 hours and 30 minutes to spend exploring. Start by snorkelling the lagoon, and check out the pristine reef, colours, and abundant marine life. The tour is fully inclusive of premium quality masks, snorkels, and fins. Plus, caters to all skills and levels of experience. You'll also have access to flotation vests and noodles.

Nothing prepares you for the majestic nature ofswimming with the turtles on the Great Barrier Reef. You'll be able to snorkel with Green and Loggerhead turtles within the protected waters of the Lady Musgrave reef lagoon all year round. From October, when breeding season begins, the waters are full of activity especially with turtles returning to mate and lay eggs on Lady Musgrave Island. The in-water snorkel guides will assist you to experience this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

If you'd prefer not to get wet, the glass bottom boat tour allows you to still have a full reef experience and view the underwater world. Peek through the visibility glass as the crew takes you on a highly informative and visual tour of the Great Barrier Reef. Witness the different types and spectacular colours of hard and soft corals, the hundreds of tropical and exotic fish, resident turtles, and abundance of local marine life that greet you from the comfort of the fully shaded, jet-driven vessel.

Next, stretch your sea legs with a land adventure, and join one of the popular 45-minute guided island walks to learn about the unique and fascinating wildlife, history, and natural phenomenons. The friendly and professional marine biologists will provide you with an intimate understanding of this beautiful and fragile island paradise. The diversity and abundance of ever-changing wildlife are incredible. Lady Musgrave Island is also a significant seabird breeding island that provides habitat for thousands of nesting seabirds including the white-capped noddy terns that nest in the Pisonia trees. The native Bridled Terns, Black-naped Terns, and Silver gulls nest on the ground in more open areas close to the beach and Lady Musgrave Lagoon.

All this activity will work up a big appetite, so dig into the delicious gourmet buffet lunch, which incorporates the freshest local produce Bundaberg has to offer. It includes salad, seafood, cold meats, fresh fruit, and more!

On the return journey to Bundaberg, you'll be able to relax, swap stories, and enjoy afternoon tea. The catamaran arrives back at the Bundaberg Port Marina at 5 pm.

Certainly not! The reef is a large, diverse ecosystem covering hundreds of thousands of square kilometres. Every part of the reef will be different to another, however, you certainly will not miss anything by deciding to come to the southern great barrier reef rather than Cairns.

Nature has something to share and surprise us with every day of the year. During the winter months, the tour sees the humpback whale migration, while in summer the tour sees mating, nesting and hatching turtles. All activities take place all year round, including snorkelling and diving.  While Great Barrier Reef tours which depart out of Cairns and other destinations along the Great Barrier Reef may have a distinct stinger season, our subtropical climate means the tour is exempt from this and can swim safely all year round.
