What to Expect
Melbourne is Australia’s trendiest city and you’re about to find out why!
Our awesome 3 hour CBD street art tour is a unique way to explore the city’s colourful street art. Put on your walking shoes and join us on our exciting journey through streets and alleyways in search of incredible street art. Melbourne is unlike any other place you’ll visit in Australia, you’ll see some of the best street art in the world and learn about the fantastic artists behind them.
We’re the only company in Melbourne that uses practicing street artists as guides on our tours. This means that you’re guaranteed to get an authentic perspective on our local street art culture. Our guides know the alleyways like the back of their hand and they will tell you interesting facts about Melbourne’s street art. Listen up, because this is not something you can look up in a guidebook!
Explore Melbourne’s colourful streets
For three hours, we’ll explore the colourful streets of the CBD. Because of the ever-changing nature of street art, we update our route regularly. This is why it’s such an advantage to have a street artist as your guide. They can take you to all the fun spots that only the locals know about. With us, you won’t miss out on the hidden treasures!
As we walk along, your guide will tell you about the art pieces we see. They'll describe the different techniques artists use, such as spray painting, stencil art, and paste-ups. Being a street artist, your guide will able to tell you about the current issues that influence the local art scene. You’ll also hear about the artists behind the work and their artistic backgrounds.
On our tours, we also like to talk about the role street art plays in the city. We think it’s extremely relevant to question the art we see and ask ourselves why it’s there? We’ll help you discover the social and political statements the artists express in their work. And we ask the most important question of all: is it art or is it just graffiti?
Hang out with the artists
After all this exciting exploring, we’ll head towards the famous Blender Studios where you’ll get an exclusive VIP tour. It’s the perfect way to end our tour because you actually get to meet some of the artists themselves.
The Blender Studios is a city-based art studio where artists can come to work, research, and get constructive criticism. With 18 individual studios, there’s plenty of space to set your creativity free. In fact, some of Melbourne’s most famous street artists consider the Blender their second home.
During the VIP tour, you’ll see how important the Blender is for Melbourne’s street art community. Several local art projects have started here. This includes the Blender Laneway Street Art project, the Melbourne Propaganda Window, Dark Horse Experiment, and of course Melbourne Street Tours.
As we walk around, we’ll treat you to a gourmet selection of cold beer, wine, or soft drink and delicious snacks fresh from the Queen Victoria Markets. You’re also more than welcome to hang around after the tour – we’d love to have a chat!
Expert – but not boring – guides
During this awesome underground journey, you’ll be in the company of one of our lovely local street artists. But be warned – our guides aren’t like the tour guides you’ve seen before!
Above all, our guides are street artists and photographers. That means they might not behave like your normal tour guides do. They’re real and honest and they do things their own way. These guys are members of the local street art community and they run our tours to share their passion with you. They know just about everything about street art in Melbourne and you won’t get a better expert on the subject.
All our guides have senior first aid certificates as well as Working With Children Checks.
A company built on passion
Melbourne Street Art Tours is built on a pure passion for street art. We live and breathe graffiti and we’re proud to share this awesome lifestyle with the world.
Our mission is to give the best representation of Melbourne’s underground street art scene. We do this through informative yet alternative tours that dive under the surface of the city. The company was founded by Adrian Doyle who was one of the first members of Melbourne’s street art movement. He’s currently a Ph.D. candidate in fine art and is working with the city of Melbourne to develop sustainable street art policies. He’s also a successful street artist and his stencil work is displayed at the National Gallery of Australia.
