The platypus is one of the most difficult animals to see in the wild. Join this incredible 2-day Platypus Great Ocean Road Tour to see the main highlights of the Great Ocean Road on the first day. Then,&nbsp;on the second day, you get to paddle out onto Lake Elizabeth, looking for the platypus.

<h4>Day 1</h4>

Your adventure starts early to avoid the traffic and beat the crowds. Travelling from Melbourne, you&#39;ll take the inland route to&nbsp;journey through Colac and dairy-farm country before turning toward the coast and joining the Great Ocean Road at Port Campbell.&nbsp;

&nbsp;

Once on this iconic road, the first stop is the famous London Bridge, followed by The Arch. Both are archways naturally formed by the erosion of the sea. London Bridge used to extend out to the arch before a massive collapse in 1990, leaving behind an island (and at the time two tourists, who had to be rescued by helicopter).&nbsp;

&nbsp;

Continuing east along the road, the next highlights are&nbsp;Loch Ard Gorge, Razorback, and Island Archway. These impressive rock formations are a marvel to see and are interspersed with beautiful beaches and scenic views.

&nbsp;

Finally, it&#39;s time for one of the most iconic sights on the Great Ocean Road &ndash; the&nbsp;12 Apostles. Marvel at the rugged splendour of these limestone stacks&nbsp;rising majestically from the Southern Ocean as they battle the unforgiving waves. The view from the lookout is spectacular.&nbsp;You&#39;ll also have the option to add on a scenic helicopter flight here, too, weather and availability permitting (own expense).

Enjoy a change of scenery as the road makes its way inland to Lavers Hills, where there&#39;s time to buy lunch and wander around the town. Then, the journey continues through the Otway Forest, stretching your legs with a temperate rainforest walk at Maits Rest.&nbsp;

As you travel, don&#39;t forget to keep your eyes peeled for wildlife, spotting&nbsp;koalas and wild parrots in the Kennett River area. There are also plenty of chances to get your camera out, with stops at&nbsp;some beautiful scenic lookouts along the way.

Enjoy a quick break in Lorne to check out the beach and local shops before heading to Forrest for the night.&nbsp;The accommodation varies based on availability and group size, but you&#39;ll stay in either guesthouse or cottage accommodation at unique properties that are sure to make your stay enjoyable.&nbsp;

<h4>Day 2&nbsp;</h4>

&nbsp;

With another early&nbsp;start, before sunrise, you&#39;ll leave the little town of Forrest. Your guide will take you on a canoe tour to discover Australia&#39;s most elusive animal (life jackets provided).&nbsp;Lake Elizabeth is a&nbsp;remote mountain lake formed by a landslide and a beautiful place to spend some time searching for the platypus.&nbsp;Share some time with this unique 100 million-year-old egg-laying mammal in its natural habitat.

&nbsp;

After the platypus adventure, head back to Forrest for breakfast (own cost) before it&#39;s&nbsp;time to go and see the Californian Redwood plantation in the Otways. The Forests Commission of Victoria planted these incredible, massive trees in the 1930s&nbsp;and they now tower 70-meters above the forest floor. With time, they have the potential to grow even taller, rivalling their California counterparts which stand at nearly 100 metres tall.&nbsp;

&nbsp;

As the journey reaches the end, there&#39;s one last scenic stop at&nbsp;Hopetoun Falls &ndash;&nbsp;classic plunge falls that plummet 30 metres into the Aire River. There are incredible views from the upper platform or base of the falls. Afterwards, you&#39;ll journey back to Melbourne via Colac.&nbsp;
