Why Do We Love This

We love that this dive caters for both beginning and experienced divers. We also love that you get to explore the beautiful Bay of Islands and even dive over a shipwreck!

What to Expect

This is the perfect way to dive into your New Zealand adventure. Whether you're a beginner or seasoned diver, this trip will be one to remember!

Start the dive day at 7:45 am at the Paihia Dive shop on Williams Road.  Your guides will get the equipment and paperwork organised; then it's time to really start the adventure! Board the boat on Paihia Wharf for an 8:30 am departure. If you're staying in Russell pick up from the Russell wharf at 8:45 am is possible - just make sure you phone the Paihia Dive to arrange equipment.

Once everyone's aboard, it's time to start the cruise through the beautiful islands. On the way out to the dive site, you'll pass stunning ocean scenery and even see dolphins, penguins, seals and marine bird life.

It takes approximately 30 minutes to get to Deep Water Cove, so there's plenty of time for photos. On the way out, you'll gear up and be briefed on the wreck dive.

Once you arrive, it's time to discover the Canterbury Wreck! Please note that The Canterbury lies in water deeper than 18m/60ft so any divers who wish to dive the wreck must do so in conjunction with a PADI Deep Adventure Dive (which will contribute to their Advanced Open Water certification). This costs an additional $50. You must be a certified diver to dive the wreck.

After the wreck divers are finished, cruise on to a reef area to enjoy some lunch and snorkelling. This is also the time for Reef divers/Refresher Divers or Discover Scuba Divers on board to do their first dive.

Refresher Divers
You'll do your first dive after the wreck divers surface at the first reef site. This shallow reef dive gives you a chance to practice in a more controlled environment. You'll dive in a small group with an instructor who will go through the whole dive process with you.
Start with gearing up and then work on some of the basic skills to get you comfortable in the water. Pay attention to your buoyancy control and weighting, and by the end of the dive, you'll be ready for a second!

Discover Scuba Divers
After the wreck divers are up, it's your turn! The group will move to a shallow reef site, where you'll gear up and enter the water. Learn some basic skills to get you comfortable with breathing underwater, and then descend to a maximum depth of 12 metres. Once you're comfortable, your guides will take you for a tour of the underwater marine life.

Later, after lunch and snorkelling fun, head to one of the many stunning reef dive sites in the Bay of Islands. This is normally an 18m or less dive exploring caves, arches, and swim-throughs. It's heaps of fun!

The area you're diving in, Deep Water Cove, is a marine reserve, so you'll also have the chance to meet tons of fascinating marine life. There is also the chance for more snorkeling at the second site and if time allows a second dive for the Discover Scuba Divers (this carries an extra charge).

Once all the diving is done, cruise back through the islands to Paihia, arriving at the wharf around 3:30 pm.
