WHAT TO EXPECT
Take a ride in one of Chiang Mai’s famous rod daeng trucks on the foodie experience of a lifetime. You might want to skip lunch - you'll get pretty full discovering the food paradise that is Chiang Mai and munching your way around the city!
Kick off your tour with a mouthwatering plate of khao ka moo (braised pork in five spice) to whet your appetite, and from there, it's time to venture outside the old city walls to some of the best secret street eats around. From the most authentic Northern minced pork larb in Chiang Mai to crispy crickets and silk worms, this food tour will see you experience the true Thai taste!
Your guides, Moui and Pin, know the Chiang Mai food scene like the back of their hand and have all the foodie tips and secrets. Not only will you get to experience some amazing flavours, you’ll also learn about food culture, ingredients and how to order in Thai. You'll get to try braised pork leg cooked in Chinese five spice, sticky hang le Northern curry with pork belly and some tasty Nam prik pu peanut dip with jungle veg.
You'll also have the chance to explore Chiang Mai's food scene from different angles as you learn how locals’ shop, watch the city’s butchers at work and discover where the restaurants and street vendors buy their produce wholesale.
And leave room for dessert! Khanon khroc coconut-rice pancakes, exotic fruits and sweet local cakes are on the menu!

How many participants are there?
Minimum unit order: 1 persons.
Are there minimum guest numbers on your tours?
Depending on the tour, our minimum group numbers are either 2 or 4. In the unlikely event that the tour doesn’t reach the required guest numbers, we will be in contact to either change your booking to another day or offer a full refund, whichever suits you best.
Are all your tours in English?
All our tours are currently run in English worldwide, although of course our guides speak the local language (and will be happy to teach you a bit of the basics if you wish). For whole group tour bookings in other languages we are happy to try and find a local translator if essential. Please book your tour as early as possible in this instance to give us time to make arrangements.
Are your tours groups big?
To ensure the best possible service, our tours have a maximum of 12 people, though some are smaller. In some cases, we have more than one guide per tour allowing for a more intimate experience. Our small groups allow us access to the best foodie spots in town, many of which are street vendors or tiny establishments. Should you be travelling in a larger group and all wish to take the tour together then of course we can arrange for you to do so if you let us know before booking. Should I tip?
There is no need to tip each of the stops on your tour. Our guides are well paid and do not solicit tips from guests. However, should you wish to show your appreciation, our guides will be more than happy to receive any extra bonus. This is totally at your discretion and not at all necessary.
I'm going to be late for the departure time. What should I do?
Please ensure you arrive promptly for your tour. If you are new to the area and traffic is busy we advise aiming to arrive at the meeting point earlier than the start time on your booking confirmation. To ensure the other guests reach every food spot, our guides will wait up to 15 minutes for late arrivals. Should you be running late, please contact your guide locally on the contact details (telephone, WhatsApp or email) to arrange a meeting point later in the tour. Our guides will do everything in their power to arrange for you to join the trip as soon as possible, but please be aware that there is no refund available for late arrivals or no shows.
Should I bring my ticket?
Please print off your ticket or download it to your phone and bring it with you. Don’t worry, should this be forgotten, you won’t be penalized, although our guide will need to contact head office to confirm.
What happens if its raining?
Under most circumstances tours will continue to be run even if the weather isn’t quite as perfect as we’d all like it to be on holiday. Most tours feature indoor and undercover dining along the way and your guide may change the tours itinerary slightly to suit such occasions. Please bring an umbrella during rainy season. However, if tours are cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, your guide will contact you. If you have any concerns about the weather, you can either contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or your guide directly on the contact details provided on the ticket.
I've booked. Where does my tour start from?
To ensure that guests have the maximum time eating and exploring we include an easy-to-find meeting point for each tour (instead of spending time picking up each guest from hotels around the city which can take up valuable time). The meeting point is shown on your ticket and directions will be written in the local language to show a taxi driver. Your guide will be waiting at the meeting point holding a sign and wearing A Chef’s Tour t-shirt. Should you have any trouble finding the meeting point, please contact your guide on the details provided on the ticket (telephone, WhatsApp, email).
Although we visit every stop, we cannot guarantee every vendor is available. In the unlikely event a vendor is closed for the evening, an alternative will be found.
Prices for our tours are all based on USD and are subject to change at any time. Once a guest has booked, no additional charges will apply should the cost of the tour change.
Tips, gratuities, items of a personal nature, baggage and personal insurance are not included as part of any tour on A Chef’s Tour. No snacks, drinks or other food items not included in the itinerary will be covered by A Chef’s Tour. We do not guarantee every food item on the inclusions due to closure or unforeseen events. All effort will be made to find a suitable alternative for any items not available.
Guests must arrive promptly before the departure time for any tour booked with A Chef’s Tour. Guides will wait a maximum of 15 minutes for late arrivals before departing. Guides will do their best to arrange an alternative meeting point later in the tour should you be delayed, but this cannot be guaranteed. No refund will be issued for no shows or late arrivals.
Guests are responsible for their own conduct and the actions of their party. A Chef’s Tour and our partners reserve the right to refuse entry or continuation of your tour to anyone who is deemed a danger, nuisance and/or doesn’t comply with local laws or customs, or is offensive in any way towards guides, other guests or the local community. The safety of our partners and their guides are of paramount importance to us.
All guests must be over the age of 18 or accompanied by a legal guardian who is over the age of 18. The legal guardian will be responsible for any and all guests under this age. For tours that offer alcohol, proof of age may be required (e.g. passport or driving license) and will not be offered to anyone under the legal age limit. A Chef's Tour will endeavour to find a suitable alternative substitute, however, this cannot be guaranteed. Many of A Chef's Tour tours are suitable for young children, but please contact us first to discuss before making a booking.
Tours vary in physical ability. They have been designed to be undertaken by most age groups, however, it is your sole responsibility to decide whether you and everyone in your party are physically able to participate in the tour. Check the tour description and FAQs for further details of individual tours.
Cancellation by guests
In the event of cancellation by a guest, fees may apply. If the date of cancellation is outside of 48 hours before departure, a full refund will be given. Within 48 hours of the tour departure and no shows, no refund will be offered. No partial refunds will apply should a guest decide to join a tour late or leave a tour early.
Cancellation by A Chef’s Tour
In the unlikely event of A Chef’s Tour cancelling a departure, we will endeavour to change the booking date to another suitable departure or offer a full refund. Unforeseen circumstances include but are not limited to natural disasters, political instability and acts of terrorism. A Chef’s Tour tour is not liable for any loss of travel insurance, visas, vaccinations, hotel bookings, external tour bookings or air travel as a result of a cancellation, either by A Chef’s Tour or the guest.
