Learn how pottery and ceramics have been made here by dedicated craftsmen for centuries, and admire the many different types of decorative and household objects created in this village.
Try your hand at making your own pottery masterpiece with the help of master craftsmen, and fire up your own souvenir piece to take home as a memento of your trip.
On this tour and workshop you will start in Hanoi and take a scenic bus ride out of the city to the local village of Bat Trang. The village sits on the stunning Red River and you will get the chance to admire the countryside and see how the locals live as part of the bus journey.
Once in the village you will get to hear all about the history of this area, which has been making pottery and ceramic pieces for over a thousand years. Many of the craftsmen here come from a long line of pottery makers, so know that you will be in good hands throughout the workshop.
After the bustling hive of Hanoi, Bat Tang will seem like a breath of fresh air thanks to its slow pace and peaceful atmosphere, and you will get to see the range of ceramics made here that include both practical household items as well as more decorative and elaborate pieces. You will also hear all about the ceramic and pottery making process and will even get to see how pottery is made here using traditional wooden burners instead of the more modern gas burners used in many of the local factories nowadays.
Once you have toured the village you will get to work with a craftsman to make your own piece of art, and don’t worry if it looks complex as you will be guided through the entire process from start to finish. Once you are satisfied with your design, it will be fired in a wood burning kiln in keeping with the way in which pottery has been made here in the last 1,000 years.
At the end of the day, you will have your very own piece of unique Bat Trang pottery that you will be able to take home with you and which will make an excellent memento of your time in this spectacular craft village.
