Akaroa is one of the best sea kayaking destinations in New Zealand and is the ultimate way to see some of the incredible views in the pristine Banks Peninsula, where the mountains meet the ocean. While exploring remote bays and inlets and enjoying chance encounters with an array of wildlife, your experienced nature guide will tell stories about the extinct volcano you are paddling through and take photos for you whilst gliding through the stunning turquoise waters.
Get those legs spinning, soak in glorious views and gain a huge sense of achievement from reaching the top of the crater as you pedal along on a latest model Scott Electric mountain bike. The multiple pedal assist functions will have you whizzing around with ease so you can just enjoy the scenery. Join the guided sunrise kayak safari and soak in the most peaceful time of the day away from the crowds. Your guided coastal cruise e-bike tour will follow at 3:30 pm, giving you plenty of time to make the most of Akaroa for a relaxed lunch in between activities!
8:30 am - Guided Lava Loop E-bike Tour & Guided Crater Cruiser Sea Kayak Safari
Join your guide to cycle the scenic lava loop at 8:30 am and finish in time to join the guided crater cruiser sea kayak safari at 11:30 am. You will be all finished with your epic day by 2.00 pm with a big smile on your face!
Option 2: Guided Sea Kayaking & Self Guided E-bike Tours
Jump on a guided sea kayaking tour, and if you are an experienced rider you can head off by yourself with a map exploring at your own pace on a self-guided E-bike tour along the iconic Little River Rail Trail or Coastal Cruise route which is suitable for all abilities. The sea kayak tours are at set times but you can choose what time you would like to do the E-bike activity.

11:30 am - Guided Crater Cruiser Sea Kayak Safari & Self Guided E-Bike Tour
Join the guided crater cruiser sea kayak safari at 11:30 am before heading off on a self-guided E-bike tour later in the afternoon along the picturesque Little River Rail Trail. You will be finished kayaking by 2.00 pm so plenty of time left for more adventure!

You will get your ankles and feet wet as your climb into your kayak but apart from this our spray skirts will keep you warm and dry. We recommend bringing a light jacket as the weather can be changeable.
Anyone who knows how to ride a mountain bike. Your guide will explain how to use the riding modes. You must already be comfortable with using gears and brakes on a conventional mountain bike in order to attend the tours.
For sea kayaking, a basic to moderate level of fitness is required and you must be able to get yourself in and out of your kayak easily, unassisted. Back injuries or very tall people may have issues travelling comfortably.
Please note, the Sunrise Sea Kayaking Safari covers more distance, moves at a faster pace and needs a little more effort than our Crater Cruiser Safari and you may be required to carry your kayak with a partner so please keep this in mind when choosing your tour.
For e-biking, you need to have a moderate level of fitness as you must pedal for the duration of the tour, and of course, you can use our powerful turbo modes whenever you are approaching a hill! You must also be able to read the screen for the modes, so if you wear glasses ensure you have them with you!
Your safety and well-being are our number one priority. Strong winds and large swell can cause us to cancel sea kayaking trips from time to time but this is quite rare. We are completely mobile and lucky to have many different locations to operate in depending on the wind direction.
Rain, on the other hand, is “sweet as” and all trips will proceed as normal unless it is very heavy, consistent rain! If the weather is looking unsuitable for your trip we will SMS or email you beforehand to give you the opportunity to reschedule.

- You must be able to get in and out of your kayak unassisted
- Not suitable for guests with back problems.
- Must have previous experience riding a ‘normal mountain bike’ & be confident riding on gravel roads
- A moderate level of fitness is required
- All reservations are non-refundable unless the operator cancels due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances
- If the operator cancels your booking you will be given a chance to re-book or receive a full refund
- No-shows will be charged 100% of the booking price
